Stantec to develop interior workspace for Walgreens new Chicago office

Walgreens to open approximately 200,000-square-foot office in Chicago’s Old Post Office building

Walgreens will open a new office in Chicago and has hired global design and engineering firm Stantec as the architect and interior designer to develop the interior workspace. The new office space will be approximately 200,000-square-feet in The Old Post Office building, 433 W. Van Buren St.

The Old Post Office building allows Walgreens to increase its presence in Chicago, where the company was founded. 1,800 people are expected to work at the new space over time, which will be the largest number of corporate employees Walgreens has ever had based in Chicago.

Stantec’s Chicago office has worked with Walgreens for more than 10 years, collaborating on its renovated headquarters in Deerfield. Stantec supported architecture, interiors, and engineering development on the campus. The new office won’t replace the existing headquarters, as it remains important to the future strategy of Walgreens to grow its pharmacy business and increase store traffic.

Stantec is known for designing high performance workplaces where employees, clients, and business thrive.

The new office at The Old Post Office is anticipated to open in fall 2019. Walgreens currently employs nearly 4,500 people in the City of Chicago, where it also operates 120 drugstores. Nationally, Walgreens employs more than 235,000 and will still have approximately 3,200 at its headquarters in Deerfield.
