Global design firm the first in North America to receive certification

07/02/2019 Vancouver, BC TSX, NYSE:STN

Stantec’s Vancouver office has officially achieved Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification™ (RHFAC). Meeting this standard demonstrates Stantec’s leadership in designing the built environment to remove barriers and liberate the potential of people with disabilities.

Receiving Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification is a proud achievement and a significant milestone for our Company, and furthers our valued partnership with the Rick Hansen Foundation. At Stantec, we are proud to not only apply accessible design to our own office, but also share that important perspective with our clients.

Stantec’s Vancouver office features several accessible features including:

  • Accessible entrance, featuring wheelchair ramps
  • Wide corridors and hallways
  • Elevators with bright signage and design, increasing wayfinding features for visually impaired employees and guests
  • Refuge areas for persons with disabilities to safely exit in case of emergency

Championing accessible design, Stantec will be exploring additional office certification and has one designated RHFAC Professional within Stantec’s Buildings team.

“I am thrilled Stantec has achieved RHF Accessibility Certification for their Vancouver office. I want to congratulate the entire team for their commitment to accessibility,” says Rick Hansen, founder of the Rick Hansen Foundation. “It is my hope that Stantec’s leadership will inspire other architects and firms across the country to follow suit, and put meaningful access at the forefront of their designs. When we ensure all people can go all places, we create a stronger, more equitable Canada.”
