Sandy Birrell

Associate, Mechanical Engineer

Photo of Sandy

Sandy is an associate level leader and manages the mechanical engineering team in Whitehorse. She’s a senior mechanical engineer and project manager specializing in cold-climate projects in the North including Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Northern British Columbia. Her primary engineering focus has been on commercial and institutional building heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) design and project management, with both conventional and alternate energy systems such as biomass and geothermal.

Combining her expertise in energy, HVAC, and northern-building designs, Sandy helped create the first LEED Gold building in the Yukon at the F.H. Collins school. A little more remotely—in the small town of Atlin in Northern British Columbia—she was thrilled to see the elimination of fossil fuels for two Taku River Tlingit First Nation buildings with a new, lake-sourced geothermal system that she managed and designed.

Sandy believes in the power that a diverse group of individuals can bring to any project success or problem resolution. She proudly supports our inclusive culture that celebrates individuals and the unique contributions each team member brings.
