Whether providing technical guidance as a seasoned biologist or regulatory advice as a project director, Derek has provided innovative and cost-effective solutions throughout his 20+ year career as an environmental consultant. After spending the first half of his career in Canada, Derek joined our Environmental Services team in the US.
Derek’s passion for environmental sustainability led to a focus on renewable energy, working on wind and solar projects throughout North America. As a wildlife expert, Derek has been at the forefront of designing pre- and post-construction programs such as fatality monitoring protocols for wind and solar projects in Alberta, Canada. He has also led negotiations on mitigation and monitoring requirements for endangered species, and the first biodiversity offset plan for a renewable energy project in Western Canada. Derek has influenced the development of regulatory and industry-based best management practices, including BMPs for migratory birds for Canada’s pipeline and electricity sectors.
Outside of work, when not wrangling his three kids, Derek is usually at a concert with his wife or running the trails nearby.
