Philip Swanton

Area Manager

Photo of Philip

Philip grew up helping his dad who was a steel fabricator. This gave him an appreciation for structures and how they go together and function. With over 40 years of experience in the project management, inspection, assessment, rehabilitation, and design of bridges, tunnels, and highway structures, Philip works on bridges carrying rail and roadway traffic—that range in size and type from simple spans to more complex larger structures including arches (steel and brick) suspension and truss structures. Materials can be brick, stone, concrete, steel, wrought iron and cast-iron members.

His most memorable projects? Working on the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) Phase One of the Red and Purple Modernization Program Design-Build Project, where the Walsh-Fluor Design-Build team upgraded an existing 120-year-old steel structure for new track alignment. Currently, he enjoys the Old Fredericksburg Road project for Bexar County in San Antonio, Texas where his team is working on a bridge to elevate an existing road that frequently floods.

When he’s not designing bridges, Philip relishes spending quality time with his wife and their young son. He also likes to race his sailboat—a Laser class boat—out in Seabrook, Texas.
