A new Aldi began with the demolition of a partially-burned down restaurant
Aldi is a European grocery chain that came to the US in 2016, with their first branch in Virginia. Since then, they’ve devised plans to build approximately 150 stores between Virginia and Texas. Being new to the states, they reached out to our team for assistance when identifying seven sites for store locations—one of which was set at Highway 6 and Schiller in Houston, Texas.
The construction of a new 17,000-square-foot Aldi began with the demolition of a partially-burned down restaurant. Following that, the team designed and laid out the site with a concept pulled from an aerial photograph. They then surveyed the land and went through several iterations to meet all of the client’s needs. Not only was the timeline tight, but an unforeseen utility duct bank also caused problems.
To reduce the required detention foot print, our team utilized a pumped detention pond that monitored environmental impact and reduced risk. Plus, public utilities were extended to the site in order to provide service for both the Aldi and the future development.
