Improving traffic efficiency and vehicle safety while helping to beautify the Town of Cutler Bay
The Town of Cutler Bay is located on the southeast coast of Florida and is home to over 40,000 people. We had previously helped the Town improve its beloved Old Cutler Road. So, when they expressed a desire to enhance Caribbean Boulevard between Coral Sea Road and SW 87th Avenue, they came to our community development team for assistance.
Our team designed the improvements with two goals in mind: solve congestion and safety issues, and provide a fresh aesthetic for residents and visitors can enjoy. To aid in traffic calming, we first had to understand the traffic operation and capacity, so we performed an analysis study for the corridor.
Ultimately, we would help deliver two traffic circles, sidewalks, drainage facilities, medians, turn lanes, landscaping, roadway lighting, and updated pavement and curb work. The design team also added roundabouts at Gulf Stream Road and SW 192 Drive for traffic calming and beautification—an important feature for a corridor that has only two-lanes.
The community was so happy with our final design that we were nominated for—and awarded—the Florida Chapter Consultant of the Year for Roads and Highways by the American Public Works Association.
