Restoring a once iconic structure back to its former glory

When the City of Lincoln received a federal housing and urban development grant they knew just what they wanted to do—renovate the historic civic auditorium. Originally constructed as an auditorium in 1921, over time the city’s need for space forced the structure to be used as senior center, museum, police department, and even City Hall. In an effort to revitalize the city’s downtown, this once great structure was transformed back into its original glory as a civic auditorium.

Knowing the vast and varied history of the building, the city asked us to first assess the building for asbestos. After discovering asbestos, we worked closely with the design architect to develop construction documents. Our role for this project was the development of asbestos abatement specifications, assistance with pre-bid job walks, development of abatement budgets, and response to requests for information. During construction activities, our role shifted to include abatement monitoring and final air clearance services.

Through hard work and careful planning, the building is now restored to its former beauty, a spectacular architectural monument to the history of Lincoln.
