Capitalizing on the opportunity for a new, multi-functional community healthcare destination
With the local hospital all the way away in downtown Asheville, there was an opportunity for a new facility: a multi-functional community healthcare destination. The vision for this facility was shared between two hospitals, Mission Hospital and Margaret R. Pardee Hospital.
As program managers and owner’s representatives, our team supported the convergence of these two hospitals. With weekly executive steering committee meetings we reviewed mission-critical timelines and reviewed decisions. Not only did we help two hospital systems create a space where they existed side by side, we addressed the unique challenges of a building which straddles a county line—dual code enforcement, inspectors, and utility providers, without interruption of the timeline.
The new outpatient facility is a convenient, accessible place for urgent care, x-ray, lab work, prescriptions, screenings, and health information. Visitors can access primary care doctors as well as medical specialists. More outpatient services and a YMCA will be added in a second phase.
Through it all, we helped these two healthcare providers prove that there is strength in numbers, if properly managed.
