Creating a facility that fosters collaboration between departments
The Center for Science and Business was the first new building on campus in four decades, and our expertise in facilities for both disciplines created the perfect match for Monmouth College. The goal was to create a teaching and research facility that fostered interdepartmental collaboration in the areas of business and science—an interesting challenge, since the two disciplines were so different.
It was the largest capital campaign in the college’s history, and we were able to help from the very beginning. By developing conceptual images in the programming phase, Monmouth College had instant marketing materials to put in front of donors, creating a buzz for the building and a jump-start to the fund-raising process.
With an unconventional combination of academic departments, we fostered a unique learning environment. The building reflects this ideology through the use of the Great Room as well as shared classrooms and gathering spaces that provide serendipitous learning spaces’—places where students and faculty casually and accidentally interact. Our team was with the College every step of the way, assisting with fundraising and managing the budget to deliver the completed project under budget.
