Supporting collaborative care for high-acuity patients in a welcoming, sustainable environment

A new signature building for a major regional health center, this replacement and expansion of a Level 1 trauma center supports collaborative care for high acuity patients in a welcoming, sustainable environment.

We designed the building to replace and expand existing acute care and support services. 70 percent of the floor area enjoys natural lighting from the three story sky lit lobby and light wells set along a simple, direct circulation spine. An adjoining cafeteria with outdoor dining provides respite space, and semi-private seating options facilitate family interaction. A three story lobby space provides a central point of reception for visitors, supported by an adjoining cafeteria, gift shop, and meditation room.

The new building includes 24 operating rooms with provisions for MRI and robotics, a pre and post operative suite with 65 beds, and an adjoining intensive care unit. The emergency department will include three trauma bays supported by major expansion of the imaging department, as well as other diagnostic and treatment spaces. OSHPD support facilities include a 30,000 square foot clinical laboratory, central processing, pharmacy, and administrative and staff support suites.
