Rick has more than four decades of experience in dam engineering. With a formal education in fluid mechanics and water resources paired with a structural practice background, he specializes in rehab and new designs for hydraulic operating structures, like spillways and outlet works for concrete and embankment dams.
In addition to design, Rick has performed hundreds of dam safety and condition inspections according to Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), US Bureau of Reclamation’s Safety Evaluation of Existing Dams (SEED), and/or Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) dam safety criteria. He has published or presented more than 25 papers on spillway design, gate improvements, upstream cofferdams and dewatering, and innovative design/construction approaches used at specific projects. Rick is a recognized nationally for his expertise in labyrinth spillway design and dewatering systems for gates.
When he’s not working, Rick enjoys time with family and friends, the Green Bay Packers, and sports involving water in all its forms: skiing, swimming, sailing, kayaking, and rafting.
