Strategic Property Partners had a vision to revitalize downtown Tampa, hoping to make the list of cities with renaissance downtowns. Looking to redevelop over 55 acres (22 hectares) of parking and warehouses into a sustainable, walkable urban district, they engaged us to bring their vision to life.
We started with early planning, zoning, and infrastructure studies, followed by a deep dive into infrastructure planning. Along with obtaining permitting for roadway realignment and reconstruction, our work included surveying and civil infrastructure design for stormwater, water, sewers, a district chilled water and cooling network, and underground utility construction and relocation. Once construction started, we also provided landscape architecture services.
Our infrastructure plan turned streets that were originally designed for cars into a pedestrian-focused framework of landscaped streets, parks, and plazas supporting lots of activities. The plan complements a framework of condos, apartments, offices, unique shops, restaurants, and a medical school. It also features a bike trail and pedestrian sidewalk, and a plaza with public art between medical and office buildings. We designed wide, landscaped sidewalks that extend for blocks with room for art, public seating, trees that provide shade, fountains, photo opportunities, and outdoor restaurant seating.
With its memorable, pedestrian-focused public realm fusing culture, desirable amenities, and a new street system, Water Street Tampa is a new, walkable, urban neighborhood where people want to be.
